Dilulu is pleased to announce the release of a major new collection of educational resources, now available in English, French, and Swahili. The materials β€” developed over eighteen months of collaboration between Dilulu's education team, classroom teachers, and community educators β€” are designed to support anyone teaching sustainable gardening, composting, and natural living across Africa.

What's Included

Lesson Plans (24 titles): Complete, ready-to-use lesson plans covering soil science, seed starting, composting, water management, garden planning, and nutrition. Each plan includes learning objectives, materials lists, step-by-step activities, and assessment suggestions. Designed for learners aged 8–16 but adaptable for all ages.

Fact Sheets (18 titles): Concise, illustrated reference sheets on topics ranging from "Identifying Common Garden Pests" to "Building a Keyhole Garden" to "Harvesting and Storing Seeds." Each fact sheet is a single double-sided page, designed to be printed or viewed on a mobile phone.

Video Tutorials (10 titles): Practical demonstration videos, each 8–15 minutes, showing techniques in real garden settings. Topics include building compost piles, constructing raised beds, setting up drip irrigation, and making natural pest deterrents. Videos feature educators from Dilulu programme sites in Gabon, Kenya, and Senegal.

Designed for the African Classroom

The resources were developed with direct input from over 50 teachers across our partner schools. Key design decisions reflect the realities of African educational settings:

  • Low-tech delivery: All materials are designed to function on basic smartphones and can be downloaded for offline use.
  • Minimal materials: Activities use equipment found in most communities β€” no imported or expensive supplies required.
  • Contextual examples: Plant varieties, climate patterns, and cultural references are specific to African regions rather than generic global content.
  • Flexible format: Each lesson can stand alone or be combined into multi-week units depending on school schedules.

How to Access

All resources are available for free download through our Resources Library. Printed copies can be requested by partner schools and community organisations. Dilulu is also offering free online training sessions for educators who want guidance on integrating the materials into their teaching.
