From Barren Land to Thriving School Garden
Nyabigega Primary School, Rwanda
"Our garden has become the heart of our school. It feeds our students, teaches them valuable skills, and has transformed our entire community's approach to food and nutrition."
When Dilulu first partnered with Nyabigega Primary School in 2022, the school grounds were barren and dusty. Students often came to school hungry, and many families in the community struggled with food insecurity.
Through our School Garden Program, we worked with teachers, students, and parents to establish a thriving garden that now produces vegetables year-round. The garden has been integrated into the curriculum, with students learning science, math, and environmental concepts through hands-on gardening activities.
Today, the school provides fresh produce for school meals, improving student nutrition and attendance. Parents have started home gardens based on techniques learned through the school, and the community has established a weekly farmers market to sell surplus produce.
