Setting Up Your Bin

1. Choose a location that's convenient to access but away from direct sunlight in very hot climates.
2. Ensure the bin sits on level ground or a flat surface.
3. Start with a layer of "brown" materials (dry leaves, small twigs, or shredded paper) at the bottom.
4. Add a handful of garden soil or finished compost to introduce beneficial microorganisms.

What to Compost

Maintaining Your Compost

1. Balance Green and Brown: Aim for a ratio of about 1:3 green to brown materials.
2. Size Matters: Cut or break larger items into smaller pieces to speed decomposition.
3. Keep it Moist: Your compost should be as damp as a wrung-out sponge. Add water if too dry.
4. Aerate Regularly: Use the included aerator tool to turn the compost weekly.
